The Phoenix Art Museum is located at 1625 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. The

museum is 285,000 sq. ft. and exhibits nearly 6000 photography collections of fashion pieces all gathered over the last 500 years. As a community center, the Museum has been designated as one of “Phoenix points of pride”. The museum also has an interactive PHXArt Kids gallery which is meant for children, it also has the Lush Dorrance sculpture garden for the enjoyment of its

visitors.

The Phoenix Art Museum over the last 60 years has provided educational programs and access to visual arts in Arizona. Arts like the Miniature rooms can be found at the museum, also the Lemon Art research center which has more than 75,000 titles for research is another feature of the museum. At the museum, one can find paintings that date back to the 1800’s fashion from the period and an amazing number of sculptures and artifacts. At the south wing of the upper level of the Museum is the Artwork titled “You who are getting obliterated in the dancing swarm of fireflies”. The mixed-media installation of Led lights by Yayoi Kusama creates the room and infinity experience, which makes stepping into the room feel like “stepping into space with stars stretching off into infinity in every direction”.

The Phoenix museum is closed on Mondays, but open on Tuesdays from 10 AM to 5 PM,

Wednesdays 10 AM to 9 PM, Thursday to Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM, and Sundays 12 PM to 5 PM.

History of the Phoenix Art Museum

In the early 1950’s Alden Dow an architect was contracted to design and build the museum. The Phoenix Art Museum opened on the 18 th of November 1959 and was officially dedicated on the 21 st November 1959. In the year 1963, the museum was enlarged from 25,000 to 72 Sq. ft. The additional expansion was designed by Tod Williams and Billie Tsien in 1996.
